In loving memory of Mr. Zhang Wen

Renowned legal scholar and educator, Mr. Zhang Wen, passed away on December 31, 2023, at 11:29 a.m. in Beijing at the age of 83, following an illness.

Mr. Zhang Wen's departure is a significant loss to the Chinese legal and educational communities. He dedicated himself to the study of criminal law and criminology, making numerous pioneering contributions. His research achievements encompassed various aspects, including the nature of criminal law, the object of crime, causality, identification and treatment of offenders, as well as the restriction and abolition of the death penalty. His groundbreaking "personality-based criminal law" rooted in Chinese practical experience has had a profound impact and made significant contributions to the teaching and research of criminal law in China. With deep respect, we acknowledge his rigorous scholarship, high moral character, and unwavering commitment to teaching and nurturing students throughout his decades-long career. He has played a vital role in fostering a large number of outstanding legal professionals in our country and serves as an exemplar.

Mr. Zhang Wen always cared deeply about the development of our institution. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology from 2004 to 2005, making significant contributions to the discipline's construction and talent cultivation. We will forever cherish Mr. Zhang Wen's support and dedication to our institution, and we will carry his spirit and integrity forward, upholding his legacy.

Our grief and sorrow are profound, and Mr. Zhang Wen will be remembered for eternity.
