In March 2014, with the approval of the University, the Research Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution of the Faculty of Law was officially established. In recent years, the Faculty of Law has signed cooperation agreements with the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission of China, the Shenzhen International Arbitration Court, the Zhuhai Arbitration Commission, the Zhuhai International Arbitration Court, and the Hainan Arbitration Commission, expanding external exchanges and cooperation in legal education and legal practice teaching. Many of the faculty members and researchers of the Centre work as arbitrators, mediators and expert consultants in well-known academic research institutions, arbitration institutions and mediation institutions. The Centre is the first research institute established by the Faculty of Law and is an important platform for legal research, practical teaching and social services. With the approval of the Macao SAR Government, the Faculty of Law launched the Master of International Arbitration program, which is one of the first master's degree programs in arbitration in the four regions of China. The Centre provides students of international arbitration and other legal disciplines with opportunities for theoretical study and social practice, and strives to develop students' practical legal skills, as well as responsibility and awareness of serving the community. In response to the development trend of pluralistic dispute resolution, as the first research institute specializing in arbitration and dispute resolution in Macao, the Centre will be rooted in Macao and the Greater Bay Area, and will promote arbitration exchanges between Macao and other jurisdictions. The Centre will strive to build a first-class research platform for arbitration and dispute resolution in the Greater China region, with the mission of promoting the development of arbitration and dispute resolution research in Macao.
