Guidelines for Contributors

I. About us

Cross-Border Law Review is dedicated to advancing global scholarly dialogue against a backdrop of diverse legal cultures. It serves as a platform for rigorous inquiry into theoretical and applied dimensions of cross-border rule of law, encouraging comparative studies across jurisdictions, regions, and disciplines.

 

II. Sections

The journal's sections are listed below. Please indicate the intended section in your submission.

1. Regular Sections

1) Cross-Border Rule of Law: Research concerning international and interregional legal conflict resolution mechanisms, judicial cooperation, and the application of law.

2) Thematic Research: In-depth and systematic research on latest legal issues from the perspective of comparative law.

3) Academic Commentary: Professional analysis and argumentation on theoretical disputes in legal science, hot topics in judicial practice, legislative revisions, etc.

2. Featured Section

Continental Legal Developments: Tracks legal reforms, judicial practice, institutional innovations, and theoretical advances in European continental jurisdictions, with comparative analysis informed by China’s legal practice.

3. Non-regular Section

Book Review: Critical reviews of influential scholarly works in law, offering in-depth analysis, evaluation of academic value, and reflections on research implications.

 

III. Submission Requirements

1. Originality: Submissions must be original academic works that have not been previously published. All submissions will be screened for plagiarism.

2. Author Information: Complete author information must be provided, including: full name, affiliation, professional or academic status, degrees, research field(s), mailing address and postal code, contact telephone number, and email address.

3. Funding Information: If the research is supported by a grant, include the project name and number in the manuscript.

4. Length: Chinese manuscripts: 12000–20000 characters; English manuscripts: 6000–10000 words (including footnotes for both). Book reviews: Chinese manuscripts: not less than 5000 characters / English manuscripts:2500 words.

5. Citation Format: For English manuscripts, follow The Oxford Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA); for Chinese manuscripts, follow the Manual of Legal Citation (Second Edition) (Peking University Press, 2025). Use footnotes numbered consecutively in Arabic numerals.

6. Abstract and Keywords: Include both Chinese and English abstracts and keywords.

 

IV. Submission Method

Submissions are accepted only via email at: crossborderlaw@must.edu.mo. Please send two attachments in Microsoft Word format within the same email:

  1. Anonymous Version (for double-blind peer review): Remove all author-identifying      information, including acknowledgments and any project details that may      reveal authorship.

  2. Complete Version: Include all author details, funding information, and acknowledgments.

Please format the email subject line as follows:

Submission – [Section Name] – [Paper Title] – [Author Name]

 

V. Review Process and Timeline

The journal employs a double-blind peer review process followed by final approval by the editorial board. Submitted manuscripts will not be returned. Authors may assume the manuscript has not been accepted if no feedback is received within three months from the date of submission.

 

VI. Intellectual Property Terms

1. The author grants the Cross-Border Law Review editorial board permission to edit the manuscript prior to publication, provided such revisions do not alter the fundamental viewpoints or substantive content of the manuscript.

2. Upon publication, the author authorizes the Cross-Border Law Review to submit the electronic version of the article to academic databases and CD-ROM editions. The journal retains exclusive publishing rights within the People’s Republic of China (including the Macao Special Administrative Region) for one year from the date of publication. During this period, the author agrees not to publish the work in other print or online media without prior permission from the journal. If the article is republished or reproduced elsewhere after this period or with permission, the following acknowledgment must be included: “First published in Cross-Border Law Review, No. x, x Publishing House, x edition.”

3. Authors of accepted manuscripts will receive a remuneration (which includes the licensing fee of the article) and two complimentary copies of the issue in which the work appears.
