Faculty Member Attends 23rd Annual Conference of the Asian Law Institute

The 23rd Annual Conference of the Asian Law Institute (ASLI) was held at Universitas Indonesia from June 3 to 4, 2026. As one of the most prestigious comprehensive academic events in Asia’s legal community, this year’s conference adopted the theme “Empowering Asia’s Rise: Legal Knowledge for Sustainability, Justice and Regional Integration”. It gathered over 300 legal scholars and industry practitioners from across Asia and the globe to discuss the most cutting-edge and pressing legal issues of contemporary times. Assistant Professor Zhou Qin from the Faculty of Law, Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) was invited to attend the conference and deliver a featured presentation.

Within the panel session titled “Artificial Intelligence and Fintech in Asia: Regulatory Design, Accountability and Fiduciary Duties”, Dr. Zhou delivered an academic presentation in English, entitled “Beyond Consent: AI’s Erosion of Personal Information Protection in China’s Financial Sector and Subsequent Regulatory Recalibration”.

Rooted in China’s fintech development practices, the presentation thoroughly examines the impacts of artificial intelligence on the traditional framework of personal information protection, and puts forward forward-looking solutions for regulatory recalibration. The research demonstrates the Faculty’s solid academic achievements and in-depth expertise in the frontier field of tech law. The presentation garnered enthusiastic responses from attendees. During the Q&A session, participating experts engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on key topics including AI regulation in China’s financial sector, cross-border data flow governance and regional regulatory cooperation advancement.

The MUST Faculty of Law officially joined the Asian Law Institute on June 30, 2016, becoming an institutional member alongside top-tier law schools including the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law, the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law and Peking University Law School.
