On November 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) School of Law successfully hosted the legal lecture titled "Judicial Protection of Intellectual Property Rights: Mainland Practices" in Room N221 of the University Library. The lecture was delivered by Song Jianli, Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Procuratorate Office of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, and moderated by Professor Yi Zaicheng, Assistant Dean of the MUST School of Law. Attendees included Professor Fang Quan, Dean of the School of Law, Assistant Professor Liao Si, and over 50 students.
Lecture Highlights
At the beginning of the event, Dean Fang Quan presented Deputy Director Song Jianli with a commemorative gift on behalf of the School of Law. During the lecture, Song Jianli explored the development and trends of intellectual property (IP) protection in mainland China, offering in-depth analysis on the volume and types of IP cases handled by courts, as well as the adjudication of cases involving foreign entities, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
Deputy Director Song emphasized that China currently faces challenges of “quantity over quality and scale over strength” in its IP landscape. To advance the nation’s goal of becoming an IP powerhouse, he proposed multifaceted strategies:
Developing adjudication rules for new technologies, new business models, and emerging fields;
Strengthening equal protection to foster a market-oriented, law-based, and internationalized business environment;
Enhancing IP safeguards for traditional Chinese medicine;
Applying legal measures to combat IP infringement crimes;
Intensifying prosecutorial oversight to ensure consistency in judicial standards;
Deepening China’s participation in global IP governance.
The lecture provided valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of IP protection and sparked active engagement from faculty and students.
