To help the 2024 cohort of doctoral students adapt to their PhD studies and establish research directions and topics early, the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Faculty of Law held the "Unlocking the Door to a PhD in Law" orientation lecture on the afternoon of November 8, 2024. The event was moderated by Associate Professor Bi Jingwei, Doctoral Program Coordinator, with insights shared by guest speakers including Professor Cao Xia, Professor Yu Guanghua, Associate Professor Huang Mingjian, Associate Professor Wang Chuanhui, Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng, and Assistant Professor Zhou Ting.

Professor Cao Xia introduced the latest research trends and emerging topics in legal studies, outlining future directions to help students identify potential research opportunities. Professor Yu Guanghua encouraged students to actively participate in academic conferences, seminars, and exchange programs to foster collaboration and build professional networks. Associate Professor Huang Mingjian emphasized the importance of academic integrity, discussing the consequences of academic misconduct and strategies to uphold ethical standards. Associate Professor Wang Chuanhui shared practical advice on thesis writing, stressing the need for accuracy in citations and maintaining originality in research. Assistant Professor Peng Yunpeng urged students to take initiative in communicating with supervisors, learn their methodologies, and strive to become scholars who "surpass their mentors." Assistant Professor Zhou Ting highlighted the value of honing research skills during the PhD journey, challenging oneself to apply academic knowledge to real-world contexts and enhance societal impact. In closing, Associate Professor Bi Jingwei thanked the speakers for their insights and encouraged students to reflect on the discussions and carve their unique paths in legal research.
