In order to enhance students’ understanding of the practical work of financial institutions in Macao, and to comprehend the development prospects of Macao's financial industry and grasp the contents of banking business, a group of over 20 students from the Master's Program in Financial Crime and Regulation of the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) were led by Mr. Lao Chak Kuong, visiting senior lecturer. On April 18, 22 and 24, 2024, we will visit the Luso International Banking, Tai Fung Bank of Macau and Bank of China Macau Branch for study and exchange.
In this exchange activity, the business department professionals of Luso International Banking, Tai Fung Bank of Macau and Bank of China Macau Branch introduced the relevant management structure, functional division and daily work to the students. Meanwhile, the legal and compliance department experts explained the bank’s compliance system and management system to the students. Through field visits, students will gain a more profound and intuitive understanding of the operations of banking institutions in Macao. Immediately afterwards, an exchange forum was held. Banking professionals engaged in in-depth discussions with students, shared their experiences working in financial institutions, and offered valuable suggestions for students’ professional development and career planning.
Through field studies and exchanges, this practical learning activity enables students to step out of the classroom and gain an in-depth understanding of the practical work of financial institutions in Macao. It combines theoretical research and practical exploration to enhance their employment competitiveness. In the future, the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. will continue to strengthen its collaboration with the business community. It aims to improve students’ understanding of modern financial services in Macao, deepen their insight into the development and job opportunities in Macao’s inancial industry, help students who aspire to enter the financial sector develop career strategies, and cultivate more outstanding talents in contemporary financial law for the betterment of society.
In response to the talent demands for the development of Macao’s modern financial system, the Faculty of Law has been approved by the Macao SAR Government to launch the “Master of Financial Crime and Regulation” in 2020. This course reflects the historical context of the significant growth in the financial industry and aligns with the talent requirements driven by the economic development of the Greater Bay Area and Macao’s modern financial industry. It aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with both theoretical research and practical abilities in the fields of financial risk, financial crime, and financial supervision. Most of the courses cover cross-disciplinary subjects. Students will acquire relevant theoretical and practical knowledge related to preventing and prosecuting financial crimes, supervising financial risks, and managing the operations of financial institutions. In order to support the implementation of the curriculum and enhance the training of local professionals in anti-money laundering and financial regulation, the Faculty of Law has collaborated with the Macau Anti-Money Laundering Specialists Association (MAMLSA) to establish the “Macao Examination Center for the Qualification of Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (CAMS)” at our school. This center is authorized by the American Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists, aiming to motivate students to pursue professional qualifications by passing the examination while pursuing their studies. At the same time, with the approval of the university, the Faculty of Law has established the “Macao Centre for Law and Finance” to conduct scientific research and academic activities. The center collaborates to enhance classroom teaching and provide guidance for extracurricular studies in this field.
