Macau University of Science and Technology and The Education University of Hong Kong officially launched the “Hong Kong–Macao Link Joint Research Framework” on 1 September 2026. Focusing on the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Belt and Road Initiative, the framework aims to promote cross-regional research while facilitating resource sharing and leveraging the complementary strengths of the two universities. Stream 1 of the framework, “Cross-Border Governance and Policy Integration”, is jointly led by the Faculty of Law at MUST and the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies at EdUHK.
Dean FANG Quan, Co-Principal Investigator of the project, extended a warm welcome to Professor Naubahar SHARIF and his delegation and introduced the project’s overall research approach and key areas of focus. Professor Naubahar SHARIF, also a Co-Principal Investigator, provided an overview of the Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies at EdUHK. He noted that the project would bring together the respective disciplinary strengths of both sides, laying a solid foundation for high-quality research outcomes and contributing scholarly insights to cross-border governance between Hong Kong and Macao.
Members from both universities then exchanged views and engaged in in-depth discussions on the research framework, methodology, project timeline, expected outputs, and modes of collaboration. The discussions resulted in a more comprehensive and clearly defined framework for the collaborative research.
The seminar marked the project team’s second working meeting. The first meeting was held online on 29 July 2026, during which team members conducted preliminary discussions on the project and its implementation.
