MUST Faculty of Law Team Participated in the 2026 International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition (English) Global Round in The Hague, Netherlands

2026/06/22

From 12 to 19 June 2026, the annual International Criminal Court Moot Court Competition (ICCMCC) (English) Global Round was held at Leiden University’s Hague campus in the Netherlands. The Faculty of Law team from the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST)—the only representative team from the Macao Special Administrative Region—once again took part in the competition in The Hague.

The competition was co-organized by the International Bar Association (IBA), the Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies of Leiden Law School, and other participating institutions. This year’s edition also received special support from the International Criminal Court (ICC). Judges from the ICC served as adjudicators in the final round, and the final hearing was held inside the courtroom, among other arrangements.

This year’s competition featured 94 teams from 48 countries and regions, including strong delegations from across China, such as Peking University, Jilin University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, Ocean University of China, and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law—making the event particularly competitive.

MUST’s Faculty of Law team was coached by Assistant Professor Wang Jia. The students who travelled to The Hague were four undergraduate participants: Huang Xiaoyi, Mei Jingsi, Sun Haowei, and Xu Yifei.

Preparations began in September 2025, when the competition topic was released. Throughout the preparation period, the team members continued to deepen their understanding of international criminal law, worked through extensive case materials, and carefully balanced training demands with their academic commitments. Despite a long and challenging process, the team persisted, successfully completed the English memorial, and then travelled to The Hague to take part in six high-intensity rounds of oral pleadings.

In the international rounds held in The Hague, the team demonstrated solid legal knowledge, fluent English advocacy, and quick and thoughtful responses, earning repeated commendation from the presiding judges. The participants also built meaningful and lasting friendships with their exceptional opponents throughout the competition.
