To celebrate the 26th anniversary of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), the Faculty of Law hosted the inaugural symposium of Cross-Border Law Review and a roundtable meeting of chief editors from legal journals in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The event was successfully held on the morning of April 30, 2026 at MUST.
The event brought together experts and scholars from universities, leading academic journals, and publishing institutions across Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on topics including the development of legal journals, collaboration between academic editing and research, and the advancement of digital dissemination. Together, they marked the official launch of Cross-Border Law Review.

At the symposium, Professor Fang Quan, Dean of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology and Editor-in-Chief of Cross-Border Law Review, extended a warm welcome to all distinguished guests. She noted that the launch of Cross-Border Law Review marks an important achievement in the Faculty’s efforts to strengthen its academic platform and enhance its research impact.
She expressed the hope that the journal will serve as a high-level platform for academic dialogue across regions, jurisdictions, and disciplines, promoting exchanges and mutual learning between legal communities in Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong and Macau, as well as between China and continental Europe, thereby contributing to the flourishing development of legal scholarship in the new era.

At the roundtable forum, participants unanimously agreed that the launch of Cross-Border Law Review is of great significance, providing an excellent platform for academic exchange and the dissemination of research in cross-border legal studies. They engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as how legal journals can strike a balance between being “distinctive” and “comprehensive,” how to move from the challenge of “limited manuscript sources” to achieving “academic leadership,” and how to enable legal journals to “break boundaries” in the digital era.
During the discussion, Editor-in-Chief Xie Zengyi of Global Law Review, Editor-in-Chief Song Wei of Science, Technology and Law, Associate Editor-in-Chief Dong Kun of Global Law Review, Senior Editor Wang Lijun of Renmin University Reprinted Materials, Editor-in-Chief Lam Iok Fong of Macau Studies, Dean Peng Yue of the Law School of Nanjing University, Dean Du Tao of the School of International Law at East China University of Political Science and Law, and Dean Cai Yingwen of the Law School of Qingdao University all shared insightful perspectives. Through in-depth analyses of journal positioning, topic selection, and the integration of editing and research, they demonstrated profound professional insight and practical wisdom.

At the conclusion of the forum, Professor Wang Jian, Executive Editor-in-Chief of Cross-Border Law Review and Distinguished Professor of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology, together with Ms. Liu Xiaojun, Chief Editor of the Rule of Law Division at Social Sciences Academic Press, delivered concluding remarks.
Both speakers spoke highly of the outcomes of the symposium, noting that the launch of Cross-Border Law Review marks not only an important milestone in the disciplinary development of the Faculty of Law at MUST, but also provides a new platform for academic exchange among legal communities in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. They expressed their expectation that the journal will develop into an important platform for advancing cross-border legal research and promoting the practice of the rule of law in the future.

Participants in the symposium also included Yi Zaicheng, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Law at Macau University of Science and Technology, as well as all managing editors of Cross-Border Law Review.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere with in-depth exchanges, fully demonstrating the Faculty’s achievements in actively promoting the development of high-level academic platforms and deepening regional legal academic cooperation. It also injected new momentum into the collaborative development of legal journals across Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau.
