On the morning of November 4, 2024, the 2024 Annual Conference of the Intellectual Property Law Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (IPLAG) and the International Symposium on Cross-Border Intellectual Property Services were grandly held in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The event was co-organized by IPLAG and Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, with co-hosting by the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) and the Intellectual Property Research Center of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, among other institutions.

The ceremony was presided over by distinguished guests, Prof. Zou Jinwen, Vice President of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; Prof. Fang Quan, Chairperson of IPLAG and Dean of the MUST Faculty of Law; Prof. Liu Maolin, Vice President of the Hubei Provincial Law Society; Mr. Cheng Hao, Deputy Director of the Hubei Provincial Intellectual Property Office; Prof. Wu Handong, Wenlan Distinguished Professor of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and Honorary Director of the Macau Intellectual Property Research Center; Prof. Zhang Ping, Professor of Peking University Law School and Executive Dean of the Peking University Institute for Intellectual Property Development in the Greater Bay Area. Attendees also included international scholars such as Prof. Lars Stuart Smith, Dean of the University of Louisville School of Law (USA); Prof. Llewellyn Joseph Gibbons of the University of Toledo College of Law (USA); Prof. Shin Hye-eun, President of the Korean Intellectual Property Research Association; Prof. Lin Yuanshan of Suwon University (South Korea); and representatives from over 30 IPLAG member institutions.
Prof. Zou Jinwen highlighted the collaboration between Zhongnan University of Economics and Law and MUST in establishing the Macau Intellectual Property Research Center, a Key Partner Base in Humanities and Social Sciences under the Ministry of Education, which laid the foundation for IPLAG. He emphasized the symposium’s role in fostering global dialogue on cross-border IP protection and services.
Prof. Liu Maolin praised IPLAG’s achievements in IP protection and innovation, stressing the need to align with central policies to drive the Greater Bay Area’s growth as a hub for science and technology.
Mr. Cheng Hao outlined Hubei’s commitment to enhancing IP cooperation with the Greater Bay Area, focusing on cross-border services, talent cultivation, and rapid response mechanisms to support innovation.

Founded in 2018 by the MUST Faculty of Law, The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Law, and Jinan University School of Intellectual Property, IPLAG now comprises over 30 member institutions, including universities, research centers, and IP service platforms in the Greater Bay Area. Its secretariat is based at the Macau Intellectual Property Research Center, a partner base of the Ministry of Education’s Key Research Institute in Humanities and Social Sciences at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law.
