From June 10 to July 19, two students, He Junlin and Wu Xia, from the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.), were selected and recommended to study the Summer Programme on European and International Economic Law at the Law School of the University of Augsburg in Germany for six weeks.

The Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. signed a student exchange agreement with the Law School of the University of Augsburg in 2023 to provide students the chance to study abroad in Germany. Students recommended by the faculty can be exempt from course tuition and attend the Summer Programme on European and International Economic Law Economics in Germany. This program is one of the courses exclusively offered for foreign students, teaching in English by renowned German professors like Prof. Dr. Thomas M.J. Möllers, covers subjects such as WTO law, private international law, international investment law, European contract law, European company law, and international arbitration. Apart from being recommended by the college as per the agreement, students can also enroll in this course at their own expense.

The two students expressed their immense gratitude to the faculty for offering them valuable exchange opportunities in Germany. This experience enabled them to study at a large-scale comprehensive public university with stunning scenery and expand their knowledge and professional skills. Apart from their academic courses, they engaged in academic discussions with local professors and international students, and shared research findings through participation in legal seminars and lectures. Additionally, they took part in various visits and sightseeing activities, immersing themselves in the local culture and lifestyle.

The Faculty of Law has always adhered to the mission and goal of “Based in Macao and Oriented to the World” and has actively explored cooperation with internationally renowned law schools to establish an overseas learning platform for students. In the future, the Faculty of Law will continue to adhere to diversified foreign exchanges and cooperation, expand students’ international horizons, strive to cultivate more outstanding international legal talents, and contribute to the construction of the country’s foreign-related legal system.

The exchange study at the University of Augsburg in Germany was an unforgettable experience. The course covered EU law, private international law, and US/EU antitrust law, enriching my legal knowledge and broadening my international perspective. Particularly in the EU law course, I gained a profound understanding of the EU’s legal framework and the legal relations between member states. Through case analysis and discussions, I deepened my comprehension of the EU’s legal system. Simultaneously, I greatly benefited from the academic background and practical experience of the professors, which helped me consider how to apply knowledge to practical work. Moreover, this exchange and learning experience fostered my personal growth. Interacting with classmates from around the world enhanced my language communication skills. The German education method emphasizes students’ initiative and participation, sparking my interest in learning. This experience is indelible for me and will continue to inspire my future career development. I will persist in working diligently, drawing on this memory and the knowledge I have acquired to support my future studies.
