On the afternoon of June 28, 2024, Mr. Wen Xiaofa, Head of the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Division of the Commercial Service Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, and his delegation visited the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.) were warmly received by Dean Fang Quan of the Faculty of Law. Accompanying the visit were Deputy Director Huang Ya, Level 4 Principal Staff Member Chen Wenling, and Ms. Cao Hongji of the Comprehensive Law Enforcement Division; Ms. Liu Ying, General Manager of Trademarks and Other Business Department and Ms. Zhou Yongxin, Deputy General Manager of International Operations Department from Hengqin International Intellectual Property Exchange Center Co., Ltd.. Assistant Dean Yi Zaicheng and Assistant Professor Liao Si from the Faculty of Law, Project Manager Yu Jiali of the Integration between Industry and Education Affairs Office of M.U.S.T. and Ms. Zhang Xinwen, Staff of the Research and Technology Administration Office of M.U.S.T. attended the conference.

Dean Fang Quan welcomed Director Wen Xiaofa and the delegation, and introduced the number of teachers and students, curriculum, teaching and research features, academic platform, and international exchanges and cooperation to the guests. She especially highlighted the faculty’s efforts in intellectual property research, such as the operation of the Macao Research Center for Intellectual Property, a key partner (overseas) base of the Ministry of Education in Humanities and Social Sciences. She also mentioned the development of the Intellectual Property Law Alliance of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (IPLAG), led by the faculty and jointly established with academic research, legal practices, and service platforms institutions in Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao. Manager Yu Jiali provided an overview of the university’s patent situation to the participants.
Director Wen Xiaofa introduced the institutional setting and functions of the Commercial Service Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. He appreciated the characteristics of the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. for its cross-domain legal talent training and comparative law research. He expressed hope that the Faculty of Law could offer theoretical support in the future, facilitate the integration of theory and practice, and contribute to the advancement of law enforcement.
During the conference, the two sides discussed patent licensing, administrative protection of trade secrets, transformation of enterprises, universities, and research institutes, law enforcement issues arising from the convergence of cross-border laws and rules, etc. They hoped to leverage their respective geographical advantages and research platforms to actively interact and exchange ideas, promote the training of legal talents and research projects in the two locations, and advance the construction of the rule of law in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Cooperation Zone.
