【Graduation Speech】

During the four years of studying at the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T., I discovered my passion for legal research. This was fostered by the inclusive and diverse academic environment, as well as the guidance and resolution of doubts provided by every professor at the faculty, leaving no question unanswered. Unlike traditional exam-focused education, at the Faculty of Law, teachers and students engage in discussions and exchanges on an equal footing, which is known as Socratic style. Unbound by textbooks and exams, they integrate academic theory with practical experience, analyze and compare Macao law and mainland law, blur the lines between teachers and students in the lecture hall, and embrace the clash of ideas and exchange of opinions between lecturers and learners. Although it’s time to bid farewell in the blink of an eye, I will always cherish every mentor, senior, and fellow student from the faculty. The values of sincerity, exploration, enlightenment, and innovation instilled in me by my alma mater and mentors will be etched in my memory. I vow to uphold my original intentions and mission as a legal professional and to keep moving forward.

Years have passed, seasons have changed, and my four-year undergraduate journey has reached its conclusion. When I first enrolled at M.U.S.T., I failed to grasp the distinction between “taking the test” and “seeking knowledge”. I was still following the learning approach and held the belief that knowledge acquisition was confined to the classroom. Thanks to the guidance of exceptional educators, I came to understand that studying law necessitates self-directed learning, akin to how fish need water to survive. Upon delving into the realm of law, I discovered that legal knowledge is as vast as the ocean. Subsequently, reading became an integral part of my daily routine and a cornerstone of my academic experience over the past four years.

The road to legal study is long, and close friends are an inexhaustible spiritual support. Thank you for sharing the burden of study, going through life’s tests, and emotional ups and downs with me, supporting each other, and moving forward hand in hand. “The most beautiful treasures in life are those past moments.” I will remember every moment of my time with you.

As I am about to leave school, I am filled with so many emotions that it’s hard to put them into just one sentence. I hope that my alma mater will prosper and that my classmates will achieve even greater glory. I also hope that the younger students will not feel sad, hesitant, or anxious, but instead, will write a magnificent chapter together on the shores of the South China Sea!

Recalling the past, the wind blows around the faculty; it begins in mid-autumn and ends in summer. In the blink of an eye, my journey at the Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. has come to an end. Looking through the pile of old papers in my memory, what I can’t let go of is the collision of thoughts with the respectable opponent in the moot court, the joy and satisfaction when a certain point of view is recognized by the teacher at the reading meeting, and even the nonsense that comes from the Food Studio during the meal looks so amiable and lovely... Now, as we are about to leave, ripples stir in my heart.

Seeking knowledge in law, we must compare and consider; the road ahead is steep, and we must walk through the abyss. After four years of hard work in front of the hall of law, the more I study, the more I realize how subtle and profound the subject of law is. What I have learned may not be perfect, but I am grateful to my teachers and friends who tolerated me, listened to me, and gave me pertinent suggestions when I was hesitant. I am fortunate to have found my interests and future development direction in the process of exploring and moving forward. I have gained a little bit and accomplished something. To my fellow students, I would like to say: The four years of undergraduate studies are a journey of discovery. I firmly believe that there is no meaningless journey or irrelevant scenery in life. All experiences and knowledge will promote self-improvement and progress. It is inevitable to be unafraid of setbacks, boldly try, make mistakes, and find the path that suits you.

It’s a long journey, but we’ll eventually see each other again. Although the paths we take may differ, we’ve never strayed too far.

Time is like running water, quietly slipping through the fingers, and life at M.U.S.T. has come to an end. Looking back on the past four years, although it has been hard work, I have gained a lot. The Faculty of Law of M.U.S.T. not only has an international perspective and is in line with the world, but also has the natural geographical advantage of studying Macao law and mainland law. Its education can break through the limitations of legal geography, giving me a better understanding of law and a further understanding beyond right and wrong. For research in each field, corresponding resources can be obtained, which became the soil of my interest. In particular, the experience of participating in the moot court competitions is even more precious to me. These not only consolidated my legal knowledge and exercised my English speaking and writing skills, but also taught me what it means to be rigorous and question before accepting. Learning is like sailing in the water, the difficulty lies in finding your own path in the sea. I hope all graduates and juniors will find their own path as soon as possible and rush to their own lighthouse!

During the four years of studying law, the most precious memories are the emotional connection between me and the teachers, as well as the cultivation and guidance given to me by the teachers. Enrolling in M.U.S.T. was almost a life-changing choice for me. Because of M.U.S.T., I had four years of special Sino-Portuguese cultural experience. Because of M.U.S.T., I decided to study abroad to further my studies. M.U.S.T. has given me a rich and colorful platform, especially in legal training, which has provided me the opportunity to be exposed to and learn about the differences between the laws of the Chinese Mainland and the laws of the Macao SAR. At the same time, I would also like to sincerely thank all the teachers for their teachings, which have benefited me a lot, whether in daily courses, after-school study, or academic research. The four years at M.U.S.T. are four years of accumulation and striving for the top. It will become the confidence for me to study abroad and the basis for my work. Upon advancing to the master’s program, although I have a deep understanding of my own intentions, there is still some confusion in the field, but I always firmly believe that “Faith will move mountains”. All students can take advantage of the light of law studies, uphold the reputation of the university, and move towards a more profound academic path.
