President Liu Xiaochun welcomed the arrival of Dean Fang Quan and a delegation. He expressed his hope to strengthen legal exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese Mainland and the Macao SAR, to support the development and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and to collaboratively establish a hub for International Arbitration in the Greater Bay Area for Portuguese-speaking countries and the “One Belt, One Road” region. President Liu also mentioned that many outstanding graduates from M.U.S.T. Faculty of Law have joined the SCIA to work in arbitration-related fields. It is expected that the two institutes will continue to enhance cooperation in areas such as talent development, practical training, academic exchanges, professional competitions (FDI MOOT), and scholarship programs.
Dean Fang Quan stated that in response to the trend of diversified dispute resolution, the faculty is based in Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to promote arbitration exchanges in Macao and other legal jurisdictions. The Faculty of Law has introduced a master’s degree program in international arbitration, which is one of the earliest master’s courses in arbitration in the four regions across the straits. Additionally, it has established a “Research Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution”. The center’s staff have been lecturers in training courses at the World Trade Center Macau Arbitration Center for many years, helping to cultivate talents in the arbitration field. Currently, the two institutes have signed a cooperation agreement and have established strategic cooperation, utilizing each other’s “liaison offices” as a platform, and are looking forward to deepening their collaboration.
