The Event on Developing Skills for Legal Professionals (Session 6), one of the activities to celebrate the 24th Anniversary of the Macao University of Science and Technology (MUST), was held on 22 March 2024 in the N101 lecture hall block N. The event was organized by the Faculty of Law of MUST, co-organized by the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Law of MUST, and supported by the Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation. President Chiang Siu Ling Samantha, Vice President and Secretary General Tang Xi from the Macao University of Science and Technology Alumni Association; Dean Fang Quan, Program Director Xie Gengliang, Assistant Professor Zhou Ting, Assistant Professor Chen Qin and Assistant Professor Liao Si from the Faculty of Law; President Lao Chak Kuong, President of Council Chang San Chi, Vice President of Council Hoi Peng, Secretary General Lam Wai Kun, Deputy Secretary General Lin Wa Kit from the MUST Law Alumni Association, and over 100 students from the Faculty of Law attended the event.
Four outstanding alumni were invited to participate in the event on Developing Skills for Legal Professionals. They are alumni Mr. Lio Chi Chong, LLB graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2004 and Deputy Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region Government; alumnus Mr. Yuan Yifeng, LLM graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2006 and General Manager and Director of Qingshi Asset Management Group; alumnus Mr. Wang Weiwei, LLM graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2011 and Consultant of Hong Kong Branch Office of Jun He; alumnus Mr. Yi Yong, Doctor of Laws graduated from the Faculty of Law in 2022, Director of the Human Resources Department of the Board of Directors of Huawei subsidiary and Specialist of Contract Business and Corporate Compliance of Huawei.

The sharing session was hosted by Assistant Professor Liao Si, who is also an alumnus of the Faculty of Law. The four alumni shared their spiritual journeys through their diverse learning and career experiences, which was highly valued.
Firstly, alumnus Lio Chi Chong delivered a speech covering three aspects: why he chose to enroll in the Faculty of Law of MUST, the benefits that studying law has brought to his career, and the challenges and opportunities he has encountered while pursuing his legal education. To be specific, he stated that he has worked in various government departments and has been involved in consulting and legislative work multiple times. The study at the Law School of the University of Macau has significantly contributed to his career development. He has benefited from the strong reading, reasoning, critical thinking, and logical thinking skills developed through studying law, giving him a competitive edge in both life and career.
Alumnus Yuan Yifeng then combined his work experiences from years in universities, e-commerce, and the investment industry to deliver a speech. He mentioned the broad prospects in the field of law employment and encouraged students, as well as junior fellow students, to continuously enhance their language skills and professional quality. He also emphasized the importance of learning to listen, communicate courageously, and maintain critical thinking abilities in order to succeed.
From academic and professional experiences, alumnus Wang Weiwei shared insights on private equity, venture capital, overseas investment, establishing private equity investment funds, and the work involved in investments. Finally, he encouraged the students to cherish their time on campus, maintain good health, cultivate confidence and resilience, learn to be grateful, and embrace openness and altruism.
Alumnus Yi Yong shared their thoughts on legal personnel from the perspective of corporate compliance with the theme of “Starting from the heart and going new”, combined with his own work experiences in the construction of global strategic pattern project management mechanism, global contract business and implementation system, compliance and risk supervision and qualification certification in enterprises. He stated that in the era of artificial intelligence, innovation and compliance are the inevitable choices for enterprises. It is also the essential mission of legal professionals to promote the rule of law and safeguard the safety and rights of innovators through compliance. Finally, he encouraged students to actively participate in the field of compliance.

At the end of the event, four alumni guests shared words of wisdom with the junior students, earnestly advising them on important considerations for their future career and studies. They wished the students a bright future and encouraged them to strive to become outstanding legal professionals. The Event on Developing Skills for Legal Professionals has created a platform for students to communicate with outstanding alumni in close proximity. This allows students to interact with exceptional alumni guests, learn from their experiences, and establish a solid foundation for future study and career development planning.
