Macau University of Science and Technology Celebrates 26th Anniversary with “Candid Conversations with Legal Professionals (Session VIII): The Skills of Growth”

Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) hosted the eighth session of its “Candid Conversations with Legal Professionals” series, titled The Skills of Growth, on March 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Auditorium N101. The event was organized by the Faculty of Law, co-organized by the Faculty of Law Alumni Association, and supported by the MUST Foundation.

Distinguished guests included Professor Fang Quan, Associate Vice President of MUST and Dean of the Faculty of Law; Dr. Tang Xi, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the Alumni Association Federation; Professor Yi Zaicheng, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law; Program Director Mou Xiaobo; Associate Professor Dai Mengliang; Assistant Professor Zhou Ting; Mr. Lau Chak Kuong, President of the Faculty of Law Alumni Association; Mr.Chang San Chi , Chairman; Ms. Xu Bing, Vice Chairman; Mr. Lam Wai Kun, Secretary-General; and numerous returning alumni. More than 150 faculty members and students participated in the event.

Four outstanding alumni were invited to share their experiences:

  • Mr. Xie Xin (LL.B. 2011, LL.M. 2013), Senior Partner at Longan (Guangzhou) Law Firm and President of the Guangzhou Alumni Association

  • Dr. Li Liang (Ph.D. in Law, 2013)

  • Dr. Chen Zhenxiang (Ph.D. in Law, 2018), Associate Professor at Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance

  • Mr. Sou Sio Kei(Ph.D. in Law, 2026), Barrister at Su Zhaoji Law Firm

Professor Yi Zaicheng warmly welcomed alumni back to campus, emphasizing the importance of alumni engagement in strengthening ties, passing on the faculty’s spirit, and supporting student development. Mr. Lau chak Kuong expressed heartfelt gratitude for the Faculty’s careful preparation and highlighted the joy of reconnecting with peers and mentors. He also shared insights from his extensive legal career, embodying the excellence of MUST alumni.

Mr. Lau chak Kuong

The ceremony included the presentation of the Faculty of Law Alumni Scholarships and the Letou Law Firm Scholarships for the 2024/25 academic year.

  • Alumni Excellence Scholarships were awarded to undergraduate student Cheng Ke and Master’s student Lam Chon In.

  • Alumni Overseas Study Scholarship was awarded to undergraduate student Xie Zimao (Class of 2025).

  • Litigation Law Firm Scholarships were awarded to undergraduate students Peng Quanjin and Li Xiangyu.

Awards were presented jointly by Dean Fang Quan, Mr. Lau chak Kuong, and Mr.Chang San Chi.

The alumni speakers offered valuable perspectives. Xie Xin discussed the transition from campus to practice, strategies for adapting to AI’s impact on the legal profession, and the importance of cultivating irreplaceable core skills. Li Liang reflected on his academic journey at MUST, praising its inclusive intellectual environment and rigorous mentorship. He shared his path from public prosecution to academia, encouraging students to build solid foundations and uphold academic integrity. Chen Zhenxiang focused on study methods, advocating problem-oriented and interdisciplinary approaches, urging students to combine theory with practice and nurture a strong sense of social responsibility. Su Zhaoji highlighted the professional qualities and values essential for legal practitioners, stressing service awareness, ethics, and logical expression, while motivating students to pursue their ideals with perseverance.

It strengthened alumni bonds, inspired students with role models, and reinforced the values of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the rule of law.
