2025/07/10

To deepen maritime cooperation between the Mainland, Hong Kong, and Macao and enhance the understanding of shipping law practices among students from the SARs, Mr. Huang Sihao, a student from the Faculty of Law of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), participated in the "Summer Programme for Hong Kong and Macao Higher Education Institutions" hosted by Dalian Maritime University from June 28 to July 8, 2025.

This programme, designated as a key project under the National Ministry of Education’s "Mainland and Hong Kong/Macau Tertiary Institutions Student Exchange Programme" (10,000 People Programme), featured an integrated curriculum of theoretical and practical learning. It provided participants with close exposure to the development trajectory of Mainland China’s shipping industry and established a dynamic platform for academic exchange among faculty and students from the three regions.

Huang Sihao remarked that the programme transcended conventional pedagogical frameworks. Through immersive components such as moot courts, specialised lectures on Maritime Commerce Law and arbitration, and field visits, participants gained first-hand insight into the Mainland’s judicial operations. Exchanging views and insights with peers from other Hong Kong and Macao institutions yielded invaluable knowledge beyond textbook learning.

The MUST Faculty of Law attaches high importance to academic exchange and collaboration with Mainland higher education institutions and has been an active, long-term participant in the Ministry of Education’s "Mainland and Hong Kong/Macau Tertiary Institutions Student Exchange Programme" (commonly known as the "10,000 People Programme"). This initiative has evolved into a vital bridge connecting the Faculty with Mainland counterparts. It serves not only as a crucial platform for students to study the Mainland’s legal system and understand national conditions and cultural contexts, but also creates opportunities for Mainland institutions to appreciate the distinctive features of MUST’s legal education and deepen their understanding of Macao’s rule of law.

Moving forward, the Faculty of Law remains committed to fulfilling its mission of being "rooted in Macao with a global outlook, fostering local and cross-border legal professionals through multicultural education." It will continue to expand high-quality, diverse faculty and student exchange initiatives and deepen collaborative ties with Mainland universities.
