The Faculty of Law conducted a summer workshop titled “Guidance for Student Competitions: Experience and Prospects”

Subject competitions play a crucial role in practical teaching. To enhance students’ overall competitiveness, promote sustainable and high-quality development in competition guidance for the Faculty of Law, and elevate the standard of professional competition activities and teaching collaboration, the Faculty of Law organized a summer workshop titled “Guidance for Student Competitions: Experience and Prospects” on the morning of August 14. This workshop aimed to facilitate diverse experience sharing and teaching discussions focused on enriching practical teaching content, innovating guidance methods, and improving talent training pathways.

Dean Fang Quan, Assistant Dean Yi Zaicheng, Professor Cao Xia, Professor Zhu Shihai, Program Director Bi Jingwei, Associate Professor Peng Yunpeng, Program Director Mou Xiaobo, Assistant Professor Zhu Feng, Assistant Professor Dai Mengliang, Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao, Assistant Professor Zhou Ting, Assistant Professor Wang Jia, Assistant Professor Zhang Chuanqi, Assistant Professor Wong Weng Kuok, Assistant Professor Zhou Qin, Assistant Professor Wang Wanli, Assistant Professor Liao Si, Assistant Professor Guo Yiting, and Assistant Professor Man Tao from the Faculty of Law attended the workshop.

This workshop was hosted by Program Director Mou Xiaobo. The faculty members introduced the activities and summarized their experiences in the academic competitions of the legal profession, in which the faculty regularly participates each year, demonstrating high academic representation, popularity, and influence.

Assistant Professor Xue Wenchao first reviewed the recruitment process, preparation, results, and experience summaries of the “International Criminal Court Chinese Moot Court” and the 18th “Golden Law Hammer Cup” Competition among colleges and universities nationwide. Assistant Professor Wang Jia discussed the selection and participation details of the International Criminal Court Moot Competition, the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, and the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot). Additionally, she provided recommendations for the future development, positioning, vision, and strategy of these competition activities. Associate Professor Peng Yunpeng presented a comprehensive overview and experience summary of the faculty’s participation in the Asia-Pacific M&A Moot Competition in recent years, emphasizing that involvement in such professional competitions greatly benefits students’ future employment and further education. Assistant Professor Zhou Ting introduced the “Learning the Constitution, Speaking about the Constitution” initiative for students nationwide. He noted that, in addition to placing significant importance on and collaborating with the Macao SAR government to promote the Constitution and the Basic Law in daily teaching, the Faculty of Law actively encourages students to learn the spirit of the law through practical experiences and competition activities, thereby strengthening their sense of connection to their home and country.

 

The Faculty of Law has consistently focused on practice-oriented teaching activities, actively participating in international professional competitions to broaden students’ global perspectives. The faculty is dedicated to cultivating exceptional international legal talent. Moving forward, the faculty will continue to promote the development of an internal discipline and professional competition management system. This includes formulating and refining management policies and implementation guidelines for discipline and professional competitions, motivating faculty members to mentor students in subject competitions, encouraging student participation in various competitions, and ensuring that all aspects of the faculty’s competition activities are conducted efficiently.

This workshop is the third in the Faculty of Law’s 2024 summer series. The Faculty of Law at M.U.S.T. will host several workshops throughout the summer to facilitate the exchange of teaching and research experiences among faculty members. This initiative aims to establish a strong foundation and provide a solid guarantee for enhancing the faculty’s development, curriculum design, talent training, and teaching research within the institution.
