At 7 p.m. on May 9, 2024, the 15th Wangyang Cup Law Debate Competition Grand Final and the 15th Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition Award Ceremony, sponsored by the Faculty of Law of Macau University of Science and Technology (M.U.S.T.), co-organized by the Student Union of the Faculty of Law and supported by the Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation, were held in the N212 Lecture Hall, Block N.
Wangyang Cup Law Debate Competition is a regular student activity in the Faculty of Law, aiming to cultivate students' oral legal debate ability and teamwork spirit. The competition began in March 2024, lasted nearly two months, including three rounds of qualification, preliminary, and semifinal competitions. Finally, four teams advanced to the final. The final consisted of two sessions: one for the third-place playoff and the other for the champion and runner-up. The judges included Mr. Pak Wa Ngai, Prosecutor of the Public Prosecutions Office of the Macao Special Administrative Region; Mr. Lio Chi Chong, Deputy Director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) of Macao SAR; Professor Ma Wan Cham, Visiting Senior Instructor of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Macau; Assistant Dean Yi Zaicheng and Program Director Xie Gengliang of the Faculty of Law.
The third-place playoff featured the positive debaters Gu Peize, Liu Zhuocheng, Lu Yulu and Zhong Cheng against the negative debaters Tang Yajing, Liu Yanyu, Wu Luolin and Liu Shiyao. They engaged in a heated debate on the topic of “Illegal exchange should/should not be criminalized.” The champions and runners-up were Shen Yuxin, Zhu Junyu, Zhang Chenchang and Liang Sen, who competed against Sun Rujia, Li Ruiheng, Qu Xiaobin and Liu Lu, they fought on the topic of “Promoting the industrialization of higher education: more advantages than disadvantages, or disadvantages outweigh advantages.” The judges praised the contestants for their excellent cooperation, debating skills, professional knowledge, and good debating etiquette, showcasing the style of law students.

Venue of Competition
After two fierce competitions, Shen Yuxin, Zhu Junyu, Zhang Chenchang and Liang Sen won the championship with their outstanding performance. The runners-up were Sun Rujia, Li Ruiheng, Qu Xiaobin and Liu Lu, and the third-place were Tang Yajing, Liu Yanyu, Wu Luolin and Liu Shiyao. Notably, Liang Sen was awarded the title of “Best Debater in the entire competition.”

The 15th Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition Award Ceremony was also held on the same night. The Guanying Cup Law Essay Competition is a regular student activity of the faculty, aiming to cultivate students' ability to write legal research papers. This year's Guanying Cup essay competition started in January 2024 and received a total of 31 undergraduate and graduate papers. The faculty formed a judging panel, conducted two rounds of judging, passed the university's academic misconduct detection system, and ultimately awarded a total of 6 students.
Zhou Yuting’s work, “Transplantation and Localization: Taking Fixed-price Resale Agreement as an Example,” won the Best Paper Award in the undergraduate group. Wang Ruoyu’s work, “A Comparative Study of Hate Crimes between China and Germany - Taking the Crime of Inciting Ethnic Hatred and Ethnic Discrimination as an Example,” and Yang Qingchen’s work, “On the Bona Fide Acquisition of Stolen Goods in Chinese Civil Law,” won the Outstanding Paper Award in the undergraduate group. Jian Yueqi, a first-year Master of Law student, won the Best Paper Award in the postgraduate group for her work, “Empirical Research on the Factors Affecting the Sentencing of Crimes of Information Network Crime.”“On the System Construction of Mandatory ESG Information Disclosure in China” by Pun Hio Cheng, a second-year Master of Financial Crime and Regulation, and “Discrimination of Legal Attributes of Artificial Intelligence Products from the perspective of Legal Hermeneutics” by Chen Siyang, a first-year Doctor of Philosophy in Law, won the Outstanding Paper Award of the graduate group.
